Join lampshade maker, author of best-selling book Sewing Lampshades and teacher Joanna Heptinstall for a creative and industrious day concentrating on pleated lampshade making skills. You will learn the basic principals behind all pleated shades, and will make your own shade with super-precise knife pleats on a French drum frame.
about the course
On this busy and creative workshop you will learn professional skills including: measuring, folding and pinning accurate pleats; making a classic pleated lining; and hand-stitching it all into place. It will be finished with a versatile and useful bias trim. Joanna breaks down the process into easy stages. It is suitable for beginners to professional soft furnishers.
You will be encouraged develop your creative style, and take home your own impressive handmade pleated shade and the skills to make many more.
In order to make this workshop possible in one-day, students are provided with a 10in or 12in empire shade frame, an ideal size and shape for learning on. If you have a shade that you would really love to start making as soon as you get home, do bring it along so that Joanna can help you tackle it with confidence.
