Make your own gloriously fringed deco shade

Gorgeous retro art deco style shades complete with flapper dress style long fringe are enjoying a revival in interiors.

Join lampshade maker, author of best-selling book Sewing Lampshades and teacher Joanna Heptinstall at the Lampshade School for a creative and industrious day where you will learn to make your flapper-style lampshade using your own fabric choice.

about the course

Joanna will present the core skills in easy stages: binding the frame; measuring, cutting and marking up the fabric; fitting and hand stitching the pleated lining and fabric to the frame. You will learn to apply beautiful long fringing, layered with gimp braid.

This one-day workshop is fun and friendly, industrious and creative, and everyone is taught to a professional standard. Whether you are a beginner to sewing or professional soft furnisher, you will take home your own impressive handmade shade and the skills to make many more.

In order to make this workshop possible in one-day, students are provided with a 12in or 16in round shallow shade frame, an ideal shape for learning on. Fringe trimming and the specialist essentials are included in the course fee. All you need to bring is your top fabric.
