SWATHED PLEATED LAMPSHADES

a masterclass in pleating skills using silk chiffon

1/1

Popular back in the fifties, classic swathed pleated chiffon lampshades are enjoying a revival, with a gloriously fresh twist of colour.

Students will be taught the precise and pleasing skills involved, including: how to handle silk chiffon; measuring and marking up for the chosen design; folding and stitching a perfect arrangement of pleats; and making a matching bias trim using their chiffon. This masterclass takes pleats to the next level. Suitable for those with a little experience.

about the course

We will learn all the skills involved in making this glorious and ambitious shade, including: creating a template to cut, sew and fit a cotton lawn lining to the frame; planning the chiffon pleats and marking up the frame; cutting and preparing the chiffon; pinning and hand sewing the pleats to the frame; and finishing with a classic trimming, length of bias-cut chiffon.

Students are provided with drum empire lampshade frames, which are the ideal shape for this technique.

This advanced workshop is designed for students who have some lampshade making and sewing experience.
